Shfa News – As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of higher education and align academic programs with labor market needs, Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) organized its first academic conference titled “The Reality, Challenges, and Prospects of Dual Studies.” The event was held by the College of Dual Studies and brought together ministers, academic experts, private sector representatives, supporting institutions, university faculty, and students.

The conference opened with a speech by H.E. Mr. Ahmad Saeed Al-Tamimi, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, who praised the university’s efforts in developing dual education and emphasized the importance of this model in equipping students with essential practical skills.

In his address, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Dr. Amjad Barham, underscored the dual studies model as an effective solution to improve higher education in Palestine. He noted that the ministry is working closely with universities to expand this model, linking academic programs with real-world needs and enhancing students’ applied skills.

Minister of Industry Mr. Arafat Asfour highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between academia and the industrial sector, viewing dual education as a strategic tool to meet the evolving demands of the national economy.

The private sector was also represented by Mr. Abd Idrees, President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, who commended the university’s efforts and stressed that dual studies significantly enhance student employability through in-company practical training.

University President Dr. Mustafa Abu Safa emphasized PPU’s commitment to continuously developing academic programs in line with local and global market demands. He reaffirmed that dual education is a cornerstone of the university’s strategy to improve graduate outcomes and ensure strong connections between students and the labor market throughout their studies.

The conference included three panel discussions that addressed key issues: the challenges facing dual and higher education in times of crisis, strategies for ensuring quality and sustainability in dual programs, and the role of dual studies in bridging academia and the private sector. Attendees also heard a success story from a student in the Financial Technology program, showcasing the impact of combining academic learning with practical experience.

An exhibition was held alongside the conference, where students presented practical projects developed in collaboration with industry partners. The exhibition highlighted the value of experiential learning and the impact of academic-industry partnerships.

The conference concluded with a ceremony honoring supporting and partnering institutions, and participants reaffirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen dual education in Palestine through strategic partnerships, curriculum development, and expanded opportunities for hands-on training to better prepare graduates for the workforce.
